Somewhere along the line – as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook birthed a proliferation of online images – we lost something special: printed photos. We now see so many pictures day to day, that they rarely carry individual weight. If you’re looking for a way to create something more enduring, you just can’t beat a printed photo. From polaroids to canvas prints, they’re just that bit more special.
A Return To Print?
In the past, without a polaroid camera or photo printer, you’d expect to travel to the nearest Snappy Snaps to commit your image to print. However, a new trend in smartphone photography hardware may be leading us back to the physical medium: portable printers.
Print Wherever You Are
Whether you’re on holiday with the family, backstage at a Stormzy gig, or just want to bombard your friends with pictures of your dog Fluffles, you can. There are a few different options on the market including the HP Sprocket, Fujifilm Instax Share SP-2, and the Polaroid Zip.

How It Works
Each portable printer has a companion app which you’ll need to download to your phone before you’re able to print anything. You’ll need to turn on either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in order to connect the printer to your phone. The app will then let you choose which photos you want to print and allow you to customise them a bit too. With this in place, you’re all set to snap and print away. Keen to give it a go? One Fat Lama user is lending a Polaroid Zip for just £5/day. Fluffles will be pleased.
