According to its creators, ‘STORY‘ (the levitating clock) is “a metaphor of our planet revolving around the sun, reminding us that time is not just something we keep hidden in our pockets, but a physical and shared experience.” The magnetically guided chrome ball can be set to complete a full orbit at the interval of your choice – whether that’s in place of the absent hour hand, or as a countdown to a specific date. It can also be used as a timer. STORY’s backlit display can be programmed to display different light patterns (like the moon phases). So basically, it does all the things that your iPhone Clock App does, but more beautifully.
The price? A little over £300. Cheaper timepieces are also available.

STORY is the second feat of flotation by Flyte. The company were also responsible for the equally unnecessary and brilliant levitating light bulb.
