We spoke to James from Optical Media about his experience hiring a drone for a recent photography job.
Hi James! What are you up to at the moment?
I have just finished filming all the parts for Ravesbourne Road Trip and now I’m working on creating new video content for a London based start up whilst also continuing with my studies.
Can you tell us a little about the project you were working on?
The Ravesbourne Road Trip was the ultimate weekend away. We took 14 students and staff from Ravesbourne University and partnered them together to complete a series of outdoor challenges and camp out overnight in the middle of nowhere. This was a trip not to be missed.
How was your rental experience?
Our experience with Fat Lama was great, it was really easy to use their online booking system. Once we paid for our drone, we were connected straight away with the leaser. It was a great system and whenever there were any issues the support systems were great, answered within minutes.
Have you considered renting out your own equipment on Fat Lama?
After using the Fat Lama service it’s clear that it’s a great platform to rent gear and it’s something we have been thinking about since working together with Fat Lama.
Before hearing about Fat Lama, were you hiring equipment from other places?
We had used typical hire companies before, but we didn’t have the budget for those bigger companies on this project. Therefore, we needed to find something new, however we would go back again and again with Fat Lama even before the official hire companies.
What are the benefits of ‘stuff-sharing’ to a student or freelance photographer/content creator?
For freelancers it means that we are able to get the highest standard of equipment to use with clients, it means we can do higher quality work sooner as the cost of some of the best equipment is too much for freelancers to take.
